Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Is Getting Food Trucks

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is getting food trucks.

The Phoenix City Council approved a plan last month for some of the airport’s food and beverage operators — SSP America Inc., Host International Inc. and Kind Hospitality, which oversee restaurants in Terminals 2, 3 and 4 — to operate food trucks at 11 locations throughout the airport.

Before the council approved the plan, there was talk in the Downtown, Aviation, Economy and Innovation Subcommittee to tap into the Phoenix Street Food Coalition to recruit food trucks.

It is uncertain which food trucks will be joining the airport, according to the Phoenix New Times, but plans call for a three initial operators and the possibility of a dozen in the first year, after which the plan will be reviewed. It is likely that some of the top food truck operators in the city will join.

Christina Madsen, deputy aviation director, told the subcommittee in January that it would take at least 60 days to implement the operation.

Here’s where the food trucks would be located in the airport:

  • 44th Street PHX Sky Train Station Cell Phone Lot
  • East Cell Phone Lot
  • West Cell Phone Lot
  • American Airlines Hangar
  • Southwest Airlines Hangar
  • Aviation Corporate Office Building
  • Facilities and Services Building
  • 500 South 24th Street
  • West Air Cargo
  • South Air Cargo
  • Taxi Hold Lot
