Chicago’s The Original Gino’s East Is Heading To Phoenix

Look out, Lou Malnati: another major Chicago pizzeria is opening its doors in Arizona.

Chicago’s The Original Gino’s East has announced plans to open its first Arizona location in Phoenix’s Arcadia neighborhood at 3626 E. Indian School Road by the end of the year.

Phoenix will be the pizzeria’s 18th location. Gino’s East has locations in Chicago, Wisconsin, Texas and Mexico City.

“We’re looking forward to bringing Gino’s East’s longstanding tradition of deep dish to the people of Arizona,” said Jordan Himmel, deputy director of operations and director of technology for Bravo Restaurant s, in a statement. “The popularity of Gino’s East is obviously based on the amount of frozen pizzas shipped to the Valley every year. We’re excited to share our love of pizza in this vibrant city filled with breathtaking sunsets, desert scenery and majestic mountains.”

The pizzeria will inhabit the land formerly occupied by the recently shuttered Hazelwood’s Sports Grill in a new, 4,400-square-foot space with an outdoor patio.

Gino’s East is celebrating its 50-year anniversary this year.

Gino’s East previously had a franchised location in Tempe in the 1990s, but the new location will be run by Bravo, the same group that has run the original Chicago location for three decades.

Considering the popularity of fellow Chicago pizzeria Lou Malnati’s opening earlier this year, as well as fellow Chicagoland eatery Portillo’s — which opened to much excitement in the Valley three years ago — Gino’s East will likely open to similar fanfare.
