Lawless Jerky, which makes “craft” jerky, will be joining the growing craft food scene in Phoenix, with the likes of Noble Bread.
In fact, one of Lawless Jerky’s manufacturing facilities is located behind Noble Bread’s space on 22nd Street and McDowell Road. Lawless also has another facility in Tempe.
“There’s an appreciation for independent craft food and beverage makers, and that community is really helpful,” said CEO and founder Matt Tolnick of the Phoenix area.
Tolnick, a former sports agent, said his company also is looking to move its corporate offices here. Tolnick said he already is spending about two weeks every month in Phoenix.
“This is where we want to be,” Tolnick said. “It’s one of those rare cities that has a lot of untapped growth potential, but it has grown a lot. It’s undervalued and the cost of living is really reasonable. People have a lot of pride of living in Phoenix.”
Tolnick said by moving Lawless Jerky from North Carolina to Phoenix, his company could increase production and establish deals with bigger chains.
Lawless Jerky, which offers seven unique jerky flavors made from 100 percent grass-fed beef, already is available at a number of specialty food stores, as well as Sprouts Farmers Market. The jerky now is available in more than 5,000 locations.
Tolnick said Lawless Jerky soon will be in Bashas’ and that he’s speaking with other chains such as Albertson’s and Circle K about distribution.
