Nello’s Pizza In Tempe Closing After 33 Years

Nello’s Pizza in Tempe is closing down this week after more than 33 years in business, according to the Phoenix New Times.

The restaurant at 1808 E. Southern Ave. will close its doors for good this week. It will be replaced by Happy Joe‘s, an Iowa-based pizza chain that already has a location in Gilbert.

Nello’s owners announced the change on its Facebook page.

Nello’s once boasted four locations across greater Phoenix, according to the New Times, with restaurants in Tempe, Scottsdale, Ahwatukee and Mesa. The Scottsdale location already has closed and with this week’s closure of the Tempe restaurant, that leaves only two Nello’s.

The Nello’s chain was founded by a group of four brothers, with each brother going on to open a Nello’s. One of the brothers also opened The Parlor in 2007, according to the New Times.
