Fuego Bistro has closed its CityScape location in downtown Phoenix.
The Phoenix restaurant offers a mix of modern Mexican and Southwestern dishes. Fuego’s location near Seventh Street and Bethany Home Road is still open. Fuego opened at CityScape in 2012.
Fuego CityScape owner Jeff Ward considering transitioning his Mexican cafe to a taqueria in December, but recently decided to shut the whole thing down.
“I would like to say that, with a heavy heart, we closed Fuego CityScape, and I would like to personally thank everyone who supported us downtown and helped us thrive against the odds.” Ward said. “We are humbled and thankful for our time there.”
The good news is that Ward’s primary restaurant, the more upscale Fuego Bistro on Seventh Street near Bethany Home Road in central Phoenix, remains open. The Latin America eatery offers those same enchiladas, the signature cornbread topped in savory meat and black beans, and a seafood chile relleno smothered in lobster cream sauce.
Ward had planned to change Fuego CityScape into a fast-casual counter space with a menu limited to six tacos and one salad, all priced at $7 and including chipotle aioli sauce, sugar-cured cabbage, local tortillas, Oaxacan cheese blend and pico de gallo.
But despite the delicious bargain that would have been, he ultimately decided that his efforts were better spent focusing on Fuego Bistro.
